About us
The Observation and Infectious Diseases Department in Tychy conducts diagnostics and therapy of patients with the following diseases:
- Liver diseases of infectious etiology, in particular infections with hepatotropic viruses HBV and HCV - acute and chronic
- Qualification of patients chronically infected with hepatitis B and C for antiviral therapy under the Therapeutic Programs of the National Health Fund.
- Non-infectious liver diseases like autoimmune, toxic liver damage, fatty liver disease
- Liver cirrhosis due to infection or other/unknown cause
- Diseases of the bile ducts
- Infectious and parasitic diseases of the digestive tract and non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases
- Inflammation of the intestines due to Clostridium difficile infection
- Bacterial zoonotic diseases
- Rash infectious diseases
- Skin and subcutaneous tissue infections
- Infectious arthropathies
- Urinary tract infections
The hospital implements drug programs as part of the Infectious Diseases Outpatient Clinic and the Infectious Observation Ward for patients with chronic hepatitis B and C.
The Department performs didactic functions by training resident doctors and trainees (within other specializations).
Diagnostics is based on:
- hospital laboratory (including 24/7 access to the microbiology laboratory),
- laboratory of the Sanitary Inspection: PSEZ, WSEZ
- diagnostic imaging department equipped with modern diagnostic equipment (CT, MRI)
- hospital endoscopy unit
- genetic research laboratory - biomolecular research of infectious agents
As part of the diagnostics, we perform ultrasound, liver biopsies, lumbar punctures, bone marrow punctures, peritoneal cavity punctures, pleural punctures.
The department accepts patients from Tychy and the region, but also from all over the country. About 900 patients are treated in the Department annually. In addition to inpatient treatment, the Department’s doctors offer consultations on infectious diseases to other departments and hospitals.
Our Department has highly qualified and experienced medical and nursing staff who provide patients with appropriate diagnostics and treatment. At the same time, we make every effort to minimize the inconvenience for patients resulting from the need to stay in the hospital.
Our ward is located in a separate hospital pavilion. We have 15 beds in seven rooms, with full sanitary facilities. There is an Infectious Diseases Clinic at the ward, where patients with chronic viral hepatitis B and C are treated under the drug programs of the National Health Fund.
